Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) in the Cleveland area help families stabilize their finances and build assets through financial education, access to benefits and job skills. Evidence has shown that by accessing these services together, participants are more likely to find and retain jobs, grow their net incomes and improve their credit scores.
Besides using Towards Employment for career readiness, credential training, employment opportunities, and legal services, TE is now a Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) FOC is a career and financial coaching service that helps families build smart money habits.
How it Works
FOC programs provide employment and career counseling, one-on-one financial coaching and education and low-cost financial products that help build credit, savings and assets safely. They also connect people with income supports such as food stamps, utilities assistance and affordable health insurance to bridge gaps as they work towards new career goals.
The cornerstone of the FOC model is providing these services in an integrated way—rather than as stand-alone services—and with a long-term commitment to helping people achieve financial success.
Research shows that FOC clients who take advantage of all 3 combined services are 50% more likely to land a well-paying job than people receiving employment services alone.
We’ve learned that integrated or “bundled” services lead to concrete gains in net income and job retention. Long-term job retention—holding a job for a year or more—almost doubles when financial coaching reinforces the work of employment counseling.

By utilizing the FOC at Towards Employment, you gain access to more than just financial supports. Our wrap-around supportive services address social determinants of work which are the things that get in the way of employee success. Supportive services are provided directly by us, or through our large network of community partners.
