2010 Funding Highlights
Funding Support in 2010
KeyBank grant support of $150,000 over three years and a portion of The Cleveland Foundation grant of $150,000 supported the launch of our KeyBank Advancement Academy. This program supports Towards Employment graduates working in entry-level “gateway” jobs to help them develop a pathway to a position with room for advancement and a higher earning potential.
The Cleveland Foundation grant in conjunction with $65,000 from The Gund Foundation also supported Towards Employment efforts in Advocacy and Public Policy.
Funding Challenges in 2010
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding was greatly reduced in 2010. This significantly impacted our ability to provide Supportive Services to job seekers using the One-Stop Employment Centers. These services are critical to helping low-income clients with the practical essentials necessary to begin and keep a job, and we continue to provide Supportive Services to workshop participants and to walk-ins with support from United Way and other philanthropic contributions.
With fewer resources for our Legal Services department, we were forced to offer fewer hours of service to our clients. However, our dedicated legal staff demonstrated how to do more with less: through their hard work they ended up serving more clients than ever before.
